HF Holidays Ltd has 16 houses of its own in the UK and uses hotels throughout the world - see HF Holidays Ltd elsewhere on this website Each year the group has a week's holiday in Britain in the Spring, usually travelling on Saturdays.  The advantage of group holidays, apart from a week of walking with friends, is that we gain a small group discount on cost, and some evening activities such as a quiz, board or paper games, or local events are arranged. We often have around thirty people in a party. We travel by coach, picking up at Gants Hill and Hawkey Hall at Woodford Green, although members are free to make their own way to the holiday.  We aim to arrive in mid-afternoon, giving time to explore our surroundings and accommodation to get our bearings before dinner. At HF houses we are usually greeted by three walks leaders who will organise our itinerary for the week.  The houses are large, usually set in landscaped grounds, and each of them has a boot room with cleaning and drying facilities readily available. Recently the group has chosen other areas of the country not covered by HF for the Spring holiday. The 2010 holiday used a hotel in Weymouth as a base to explore the Jurassic Coast and Portland, and for 2011, Shropshire was visited. In April 2012 we holiday in the Cotswolds. Two or three grades of walk short/medium/long or short and medium are offered, described in advance with distance and amount of climbing involved, and chosen before setting off in the coach to the start. There is one day free of organised walks, and it is not necessary to join the walks every day provided the leaders are aware of your plans, for safety. HF houses offer full board, selecting our own packed lunch contents each morning. Hotels are close to shops making for easy organisation of lunches, and accommodation is half board with en-suite rooms. HF country houses we've visited in the past have been those at St Ives, Cornwall; Selworthy, Exmoor; Dovedale, Derbyshire; Whitby, North Yorkshire; Derwentwater,Lake District and Alnmouth, Northumberland.   Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight; Malhamdale, West Yorkshire and Brecon, S Wales have been visited in recent years.
